Holistic Massage

Holistic Massage.

Holistic comes from the Greek word 'holos' which encourages the treatment of the whole person allowing balance and harmony in the body (homeostasis).  Not only is the presenting condition treated but the person as a whole is treated. A true holistic massage is unique as it does not follow a fixed routine but provides treatment for that particular client, on that specific occassion.

Aristotle argued that touch was the most fundamentle of all the senses and touch is the first sense to become functional in the embryo.  The skin is our largest and most sensitive organ and it is here that our sense of touch is registered.  Touch is used naturally throughout our lives to give comfort and massage is about sensitive communication through the medium of touch.  Scientific experiments have shown that human to human touch is necessary to human health and wellbeing.

Massage uses different techniques of touch to the soft tissues of the body (muscles, ligaments, fascia and skin).  This has a direct affect on the muscles, joints, nervous system and the circulation of blood and lymph.

Massage can help the flow of blood and lymph in our bodies, producing relaxation and a sense of wellbeing.  Every system of the body is affected by massage which helps to maintain homeostasis and balance in the body.  Massage can have a powerful positive effect on the whole person and may include an improvement in their illness.
